Creature Mark
Apply the principles of the five inherent forces of the square with point, line, shape and shape as a geometric animal form in an 8 inch square format/image area. Then communicate the meaning of an assigned concept/phrase within a defined set of limitations.
Research and Sketches
I started off my process looking at pictures of gorillas and figuring out what the key features were that made them distinct from other animals. I drew different parts of gorillas on paper, which helped me a lot later on in the process. The face was especially complicated, so I tried multiple ways I could show it in my digital iterations

Circle and Line Study
I replicated my sketches by using a series of circles and lines, along with combining multiple reference images of gorillas to try to simplify the gorilla as much as I could.

Creature Mark
The gorilla without the lines looks like a singular shape, capturing the essence of the gorilla without unnecessary details.

Interpretive Phrase
Then I created a phrase which represents the gorilla. I used typography elements to give the words characteristics, while also using shape, space and alignment to integrate it well with the existing gorilla creature mark.
